Orchestra & Chorus of the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Marco Armiliato

Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna star in the 2009 Metropolitan Opera production of Puccini’s La Rondine (The Swallow). This new production, directed by Nicholas Joël, was the company’s first staging in 70 years.

This elegant romance is the least-known work of the mature Giacomo Puccini. The story concerns a kept woman who defies convention to chase a dream of romantic love with an earnest, if naïve, young man. This Met Opera production features the dynamic soprano Angela Gheorghiu and Frenchborn tenor Roberto Alagna performing the roles of Magda and Ruggero, it blooms into its rightful place in the glorious Puccini canon.

La Rondine (The Swallow) was commissioned by Vienna’s Carltheater in 1913. Due to the impending outbreak of World War I, premiered in 1917, at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo with Gilda Dalla Rizza and Tito Schipa. Set in a Parisian salon, it is the story of Magda, the glamorous mistress of wealthy banker Rambaldo. Her yearning for romantic love compels her into the arms of the ardent and adoring young Ruggero.

The New York Times hailed the Art-Deco set production as “as sophisticated, charming and poignant”. This DVD features the 10th January, 2009 performance of the opera, which was aired globally in HD as well as two bonus interview featurettes: the first with Gheorghiu and Alagna; the second with Lisette Oropesa and Marius Brenciu, who sing the roles Lisette and Prunier respectively.

60+ minute Documentary - 'Decade of Disturbed'

Původní 2LP z roku 1977 bylo již dříve na CD vydáno, ale tentokrát je k jeho digitálnímu remasteringu přidán na DVD téměř hodinový pořad České televize, zachycující výběr třinácti nejzajímavějších písní také obrazem. Neckářovy Bacily tu jsou v historicky možná nejsilnějším složení, na koncepčním albu z českého pohledu čestně nahlížejícím na art rockový fenomén.

Mezi autory muziky nejčastěji najdete Otu Petřinu, kapelníka Jana Neckáře a Josefa Kůstku, ale třeba také Petra Jandu nebo Jaromíra Klempíře. Rytířovy většinové texty doplnili Michael Prostějovský, Ladislav Kantor nebo Zdeněk Borovec. Nejde o skladby nutně jen z jednoho hudebního kadlubu, ale Neckářovo odstíněné zpívání je povýšilo na soudržnou mimořádnost.

Rozsahem, stylem či úspěchem nepochybně ojedinělá událost. Rockery naplněná kapela, ale také aranže pro smyčcový orchestr nebo hostující C&K Vocal pomohly vytvořit kus muziky s Vchodem a Východem, ale hlavně s hlavou a patou. Diamantová žena, Co je to svět, Potulný hráč nebo Hvězdné nebe nad Atlantidou jsou ty možná nejznámější, ale do velmi promyšlených souvislostí vřazené písně. Společně s televizním záznamem připomínají jeden z velice vydařených domácích hudebních projektů, a jistě nejen 70. let.

The CD was recorded at Bohus Sound studios in Kungälv, Sweden and was mixed at Paramount Studios in North Hollywood, California by producer Toby Wright, who has previously worked with KORN, SLAYER, MÖTLEY CRÜE, KISS, FEAR FACTORY, IN FLAMES, STONE SOUR and OZZY OSBOURNE, among others.

“Its safe to say that since the 'Burn This City' EP came out we upped the game and added even more dynamite to our stage show. The energy levels we had on our last tour in 2009 where just breath taking and all this energy followed us into the studio and was injected into the new album!”

The cover artwork for "We Rule The Night" was created by Gustavo Savez of Abstrata Art.

Commented the band: "We asked Gustavo to create a bright cover that was also very dark to fit with the title of out new album. After countless hours of frustration and adjustments, an e-mail arrived with what has now become the brightest yet darkest cover we could possibly hope for."

SONIC SYNDICATE's "Burn This City" video was shot with director Patric Ullaeus (DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL) of Revolver Film Company.

Recorded in 2003 at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, this sumptuous production of Ariadne auf Naxos presents divas Deborah Voigt and Natalie Dessay in the contrasting roles which embody the opera’s themes: the deserted princess Ariadne, a ‘one-man woman’ who believes in loyalty unto death, and the flirtatious comedienne Zerbinetta, who takes a more pragmatic attitude to love and to life.

The noble, soaring lines of Ariadne gave Voigt a major breakthrough in 1991, when she sang the role in Boston, and it subsequently became her signature role. Zerbinetta exemplifies the dizzy coloratura characters which first made Dessay’s reputation.
